A BRIEF HISTORY OF ISPW
The International Social Pharmacy Workshop (ISPW) was established in Helsinki, Finland, in 1980, bringing together researchers with a shared interest in the social and behavioural aspects of pharmacy.
Since its inception, ISPW has developed into a biennial international gathering of academics and researchers in social and administrative pharmacy. It provides a valued forum for sharing expertise, exchanging ideas, advancing research, and fostering international collaboration.
With a rich history spanning almost five decades, ISPW has been hosted across Europe, North America, Oceania, Africa, and Asia. In 2028, the 24th ISPW will be hosted in Macao, with the local organising team led by the University of Macau, continuing this longstanding international tradition.
ISPW 2028 marks an important milestone in the Workshop’s history, as Macao will become the second location in Asia to host ISPW, following Phuket, Thailand, in 2012. The meeting will offer an opportunity for researchers from East and West to come together, share perspectives, and strengthen connections within the field. It will also provide a valuable occasion to reflect on ISPW’s enduring international legacy and consider the future of social and administrative pharmacy.
